Pence sorry for comparing court ruling to Sept. 11

INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence has apologized after comparing the Supreme Court's health care ruling to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Republican said in a teleconference with reporters Thursday that his remarks "were thoughtless" and he "never intended to minimize any tragedy the nation has faced."

Pence made the original remarks while speaking with other Republicans in the U.S. House during a closed-door meeting Thursday.

Pence never directly acknowledged during the teleconference that he'd referenced Sept. 11, but two people who attended the meeting told The Associated Press he likened the ruling to Sept. 11. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was confidential.

Democratic candidate John Gregg chided Pence, saying comparing the U.S. legislative and judicial process to a terrorist attack "is deeply disturbing and wrong."
