INDIANAPOLIS -

Strong high pressure is bringing Hoosiers the hottest air of the year so far.

SkyTrak Chief Meteorologist Chris Wright says we could break a record Thursday with temperatures predicted to hit over 100 degrees. The record high for June 28 is 101 set in 1934; June 29 is 100 set in 1924 and June 30 is 97, set in 1933. We are set to tie or break each of those marks.

The Salvation Army is providing cooling shelters to protect people from the dangerous heat. They're opening two centers in Indianapolis starting Thursday.

One is on the northwest side at the Eagle Creek Corps Community Center at 4400 North High School Road. The other is on the south side at the Fountain Square Corps Community Center at 1337 Shelby Street. Both will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Thursday through Sunday.

Each cooling center will offer air conditioning, a comfortable place to rest, hydration and light snacks.

The Indianapolis Public Library also reminds residents they can stop by their local branch to cool off.
