LaPorte County prosecutor faces 60-day suspension

INDIANAPOLIS -

A northern Indiana county prosecutor's law license is being suspended for 60 days because he forged his ex-wife's signature on property documents.

LaPorte County Prosecutor Robert Szilagyi will be prohibited from practicing law during his suspension that starts Aug. 1 under the order approved by the state Supreme Court.

His attorney tells The Times of Munster that Szilagyi can't perform prosecutor duties during the suspension, but will return to the office after the time is completed.

The suspension order says he signed his ex-wife's name to a document related to the refinancing of his home soon after their 2009 divorce in order to avoid a conversation with her. He also signed his secretary's name as a notary to the document.

Szilagyi was elected prosecutor in 2010.
