GREENFIELD -

A pharmaceutical research company says it wants to nearly double its workforce in Greenfield with a $150 million expansion.

Hancock County Economic Development Director Skip Kuker says Covance Inc. plans to hire 465 new employees at salaries of about $62,000 a year. He tells WIBC-FM and the Greenfield Daily Reporter that the expansion would begin this year and take about four years to complete.

The Princeton, New Jersey-based company uses the central Indiana site to conduct early-stage tests of experimental drug molecules.

Covance is seeking state and local incentives including county tax abatement as part the expansion.
