A child is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle Monday night.

The 15-year-old girl was struck around 9 p.m. at the intersection of North Illinois Street and W. 30th Street on the north side. Police say the child was taken to Riley Hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 17-year-old driver reportedly told police he was texting when he struck the girl.

Investigators do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, but a blood test will be performed as per procedure.
