Unattended grill caused fire that destroyed Greenwood home

GREENWOOD -

Fire investigators say an unattended grill was the cause of a fire that destroyed a Greenwood home Monday night.

It happened in the 1200 block of Vicksburg Drive. Firefighters say the occupant of the home was grilling on the deck and then left it unattended. The grill was located to close to the combustible siding, which helped spread the fire from the deck grill to the rest of the structure.

There was damage to homes on both sides of the house that burned, but no injuries were reported. The house was fully involved when crews arrived, and heavy smoke and flames were showing.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews assisted the Greenwood Fire Department.

The fire prompted many calls to 911 from people who could see the smoke.
