HAMMOND -

Authorities say an East Chicago boy has drowned in Wolf Lake in Hammond.

The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the victim Saturday as 11-year-old Antwain Hall.

The Post-Tribune and The Times report he was transported to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond after being pulled from the lake about 7:25 p.m. Friday, nearly two hours after he went under water while swimming with a 13-year-old companion.

Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda says the two swam to an island in the lake while the older boy's mother stayed on the edge of the water. While the boys were swimming back, they younger boy went under.

Hammond employs security guards to discourage people from swimming in the lake.
