HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A former northeastern Indiana jail officer has been arrested on misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal recklessness over an allegation of excessive force use against a handcuffed prisoner.
Indiana State Police say 44-year-old Walter McCann surrendered Friday at the Huntington County Jail and was released on $7,000 bond.
WANE-TV reports surveillance video showed McCann pepper spraying a prisoner and knocking the prisoner from a bench to the floor head first after he complained the handcuffs he was wearing were too tight.
Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel subsequently fired McCann.
McCann doesn't have a published telephone number and he could not be reached for comment.
