Vehicle torn apart in crash on NE Indiana railroad bridge

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAVEN -

A train slammed into a vehicle crossing the tracks, pushing it onto a steel railroad bridge near Fort Wayne where it was torn apart.

Ed Lytal of New Haven's emergency medical service tells WANE-TV that at least one person was killed in the Friday morning crash. He says the train's engineer reported seeing another person inside, but that crews couldn't immediately confirm that.

Authorities were bringing in a crane to remove the vehicle from the bridge.

Norfolk Southern spokesman Dave Pidgeon tells The Journal Gazette that the gates and warning lights were working at the crossing. He says the crash didn't injure any railroad workers.
