GREENSBURG -

A southeastern Indiana woman has pleaded guilty to murder in the beating death of her 12-year-old son for hiding her illegally obtained prescription painkillers from her.

Thirty-year-old Tasha Parsons of Greensburg will be sentenced to 60 years in prison under a plea agreement in which prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of neglect of a dependent. Sentencing is set for July 20 in Decatur Superior Court.

The Greensburg Daily News reports Parsons unexpectedly entered the plea during a hearing Tuesday afternoon after fighting the charges for months in the June 2011 death of Devin Parsons.

During the hearing, prosecutors played a video in which the woman admitted to "kicking and stomping" Devin 14 or 15 times and punching him in the head after he hid the pills.
