BLOOMINGTON -
Two men were injured in a shooting near a swimming pool at a Bloomington apartment complex, and police say they now have the shooting suspect, 24-year-old Carlos Nunez, in custody.
Bloomington Police, working with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms personnel, searched Indianapolis on a tip. They found Nunez' car, a gold Pontiac Grand Am, parked in the backyard of a house on King Ave. near 58th Street and Michigan Road.
Nunez surrendered to officers at the home. He was taken to Bloomington and booked into the Monroe County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon. He declined to speak with investigators.
The residents of the house where he was located were cooperative with investigators and allowed a search of their house. The Pontiac was impounded for processing. Police did not find the shotgun used in the shooting.
Manuel Arteaga-Moreno, 24, was shot in the left hand and upper torso while visiting the College Mall Apartments in the 2600 block of East 2nd Street Tuesday evening. Police say another man approached Moreno armed with a shotgun and fired. Moreno was with a friend who was standing nearby and who also was injured by the pellets, but did not seek treatment for a leg injury.
Police say no one involved in the shooting stayed on the scene. The shooter fled and Moreno went to the hospital for treatment. Moreno said his girlfriend had invited him and the friend to the pool. Both victims and the woman named her ex-boyfriend, 24-year-old Carlos Nunez, as the shooter. Moreno told investigators that Nunez cut him with a knife during a previous altercation, and that Nunez had threatened to kill him the next time he saw Moreno.
