Wounded northern Indiana soldier walking again

ELKHART -

The father of a soldier from northern Indiana says he has started walking again two months after he was shot in the leg during combat action in Afghanistan.

Dave Yoder tells The Elkhart Truth his son, Army Sgt. Aaron Yoder, took his first steps since the shooting Monday but still has pain and limited mobility in his leg. Yoder says his son could have leg troubles rest of his life.

Mandy Green says her brother is returning to the family's Elkhart home on Saturday for a break from treatment at Fort Sam Houston in Texas.

Yoder was in Afghanistan as a specialized search dog handler.

Green says he was wounded while trying to protect his dog during the April 9 attack. The dog wasn't injured.
