INDIANAPOLIS -
Roche Diagnostics says it's investing $300 million over the next ten years and creating up to 100 jobs by 2017 at its North American headquarters on the Indianapolis northeast side.
Gov. Mitch Daniels and Deputy Mayor Michael Huber joined executives from Roche Diagnostics Corporation to make the announcement Wednesday morning.
Roche specializes in in-vitro diagnostics. The capital investments include the refurbishing of existing buildings, purchasing of manufacturing equipment for new diabetes care test strips and upgrading of information technology equipment. The investments will support the company's growing diagnostics and diabetes care businesses.
Construction on the Roche campus begins in the fall of 2012, including a new commercial education center where 1,500 customers from across the nation will be trained annually.
Mayor Greg Ballard pointed to the city's "stable tax climate" as evidence of businesses to thrive. House Speaker Brian Bosma praised the decision and also noted the state's "predictable property tax rates" and a cut in the corporate income tax as incentives for businesses.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Roche Diagnostics Operations, Inc. up to $2,000,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $300,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The City of Indianapolis will consider additional property tax abatement at the request of Develop Indy.
