Indians win at Gwinnett 2-1

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -

Indians left fielder Gorkys Hernandez, formerly a top prospect in the Atlanta Braves system, burned his former organization by driving in the tying and game-winning runs as Indianapolis beat the Triple-A Braves 2-1 on Tuesday night at Gwinnett's Coolray Field.

After drawing a bases-loaded walk that tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Hernandez drove in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Leading off the frame, 3B Brian Friday lined his second double of the game to left field before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by C Tony Sanchez. After a strikeout, Hernandez got ahold of a 2-1 pitch, bouncing it off the warning track and over the left-center-field fence for a ground-rule double, driving in Friday to put the Indians ahead 2-1.

Reliever Evan Meek worked a perfect inning-plus as he got the last out of the eighth inning and all three outs of the ninth inning to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Gwinnett had taken an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, LF Stefan Gartrell singled on a ground ball to right field before coming all the way around to score the game's first run on an RBI triple by RF Felix Pie.
