INDIANAPOLIS -

Fire investigators say discarded smoking materials caused a fire that caused $50,000 damage to a south side apartment.

Trucks were dispatched to Crestwood Village South, 8803 Madison Ave. at about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire and smoke damage to one unit in the 100 unit complex.

The apartment resident was not home at the time of the fire.  Two nearby residents were treated by medical personnel, one for smoke inhalation and one who tripped and fell during the incident. Their injuries were described as slight.

Discarded smoking materials were found in a chair in the apartment.

Investigators say some residents had evacuated their apartments prior to the arrival of fire trucks.
