World vault champion McKayla Maroney is back in the gym after sustaining a mild concussion and nasal fracture in a fall at the U.S. gymnastics championships 10 days ago.
Maroney is being closely monitored closely. She says she, her parents and coaches consulted with several doctors to find "the balance between recovery and my wanting to get back into the gym and prepare for the Olympic trials." The U.S. team for London will be announced July 1 following the Olympic trials in San Jose, Calif.
Maroney missed the final day of nationals after hitting her head hard on the floor on a tumbling run during warm-ups.
In addition to her vault title, the 16-year-old from Long Beach, Calif., helped the U.S. win team gold at the world championships last fall.
