Indiana AG ready to defend state ban on robocalls

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Attorney General Greg Zoeller says he is prepared to defend the state's ban on robocalls if the nation's highest court decides to review it.

The Indiana Supreme Court last December upheld the state law which bars telemarketers from auto-dialing Hoosiers. FreeEats.com is seeking a review of that decision from the U.S. Supreme Court. A review by the nation's highest court is far from guaranteed however.

Under the state law telemarketers and campaigns can robo-dial Hoosiers if a live person obtains the recipients permission first or specifically opts in for such calls.

Zoeller is running for re-election in November against Democrat Kay Fleming.
