INDIANAPOLIS -

Metro police say an IMPD officer was arrested Monday, preliminarily charged with operating while intoxicated and with failing to stop at an accident resulting in injury.

In a release, an IMPD spokesman said Lt. Michael Rinehart, 58, was arrested and booked at the Arrestee Processing Center on Monday afternoon.

The charges stem from an incident Monday near 16th and Worth in Speedway.

IMPD says Rinehart has 35 years of service with IMPD, and at the time of the incident was suspended pending a hearing before the merit board.
