Fair pay seminar planned at Indiana Latino Expo

INDIANAPOLIS -

The U.S. Department of Labor will be at Indiana Latino Expo at the state fairgrounds on Saturday for a seminar on the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Indianapolis Director Patricia Lewis of the agency's Wage and Hour Division says vulnerable, low-wage workers often do not have the information they need to assert their rights to receive required minimum wage and overtime pay.

The act requires that covered, nonexempt employees be paid at least the federal minimum wage of $7.25 for all hours worked, plus time and one-half their regular rates, including commissions, bonuses and incentive pay, for hours worked beyond 40 per week.

The seminar will be held at 1:30 p.m. Bilingual investigators will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer questions.
