Hits on Washington draw cash for Hoosier politicians

Indiana's candidates are getting the most miles possible out of attacks on Washington, but they're gladly embracing the capital's fundraising strengths as they race toward November.

Criticism of federal policies helps Republican Mike Pence fire up the party base in his race for governor, but he's also shaken money free at Washington fundraisers. Democratic challenger John Gregg campaigns against "Washington-style" politics he says is polluting Indiana but flies to Capitol Hill to raise money with former Sen. Evan Bayh.

Republican pollster Christine Matthews says playing to the public's dismal view of Washington is about as sound a strategy as there is for any party. She says raising money there at the same time is all part of the game.
