Oh, deer! Letter on crossing sign goes viral

An Indiana man who wrote a tongue-in-cheek letter to the editor suggesting that a deer crossing sign be moved to a road with less traffic is still getting feedback nearly a year later.

Tim Abbott's letter was published by The Times in Munster on Aug. 19. It noted that many deer were being hit by cars on U.S. 231 and suggested the "deer crossing" sign be moved to a less-traveled road.

Late night talk show host Jay Leno read the letter on air in September. Actor George Takei of "Star Trek" television fame posted it on his Facebook page June 4 and generated nearly 6,000 comments.

The 47-year-old Abbott says he never expected the reaction. He says he still gets letters and calls in the middle of the night.
