Woman's remains identified

Posted: Updated:

Authorities have identified the dead woman whose remains were found in an Anderson home. Anderson Police Sgt. Freddie Tevis says the woman was 57-year-old Deborah Hill.

A cleaning crew hired to prepare the home for lease discovered Hill's remains Thursday.

Madison County Coroner Ned Dunnichay says it appears Hill froze to death. Her body was found in a sleeping bag, and police spokesman Detective Joel Sandefur said there's evidence someone tried to start a fire in the living room. The Herald Bulletin reports the cause of death hasn't been determined, largely due to the amount of decay to the body.

According the Madison County Assessor's Office, Hill had bought the home in 2005. It was sold in April, months after Hill died, during a commissioners' tax sale.
