Escaped pigs close Interstate 69 near Fort Wayne

Posted: Updated:
FORT WAYNE -

A section of Interstate 69 near Fort Wayne was closed for a time after police say at least three pigs fell from a hauler onto the highway.

Police say a driver called about 2:45 a.m. Friday reporting that the pigs had fallen from the carrier. Police tell WANE-TV that the pigs apparently put their snouts under a door on the rear of the hauler and pushed it up.

Police didn't report any vehicles hitting the animals, but officers shot the escaped pigs. The highway lanes were reopened within a few hours.
