INDIANAPOLIS -

An abused dog, who now helps teach kids about fire safety, is getting help to rebuild the paws he lost when he was severely burned.

Eyewitness News brought you the story of Dempsey when he was just a puppy. He lost most of his four paws, skin and tail after investigators say someone intentionally burned him.

Now, a local veterinary clinic says they'll match every dollar donated to pay for at least 10 surgeries to rebuild the dog's paws and legs. The Indianapolis Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center says Dempsey's surgeries will likely cost $20,000.

They'll have contribution boxes at each of the 11 veterinary clinics within their practice.
