MORGAN COUNTY -

A 14-year-old Martinsville boy died after he crashed an ATV in rural Morgan County Wednesday evening.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the accident near the intersection of Bryant's Creek Rd. and Moulton Rd.

Tyler Rowland of Martinsville was operating a Polaris Ranger along the county road when he lost control of the vehicle near a curve in the roadway, according to Scott Johnson, Indiana Conservation Officer.

The ATV rolled on the driver's side, and Rowland was thrown from the vehicle. Rowland was pronounced dead as medics were taking him by ambulance to a medical helicopter to seek treatment.

A 14-year-old passenger on the ATV received minor injuries during the crash.

Johnson reports investigators suspect speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Additional witnesses are being interviewed.

Rowland's family issued the following statement Thursday evening:

"Tyler's compassion for others is a trait that is unsurpassed by few, but experienced by all that know him. As we move through this difficult time we appreciate all the reciprocated compassion we have received through prayers, support, fellowship and respect of privacy. Thank you."
