Southwestern Indiana county on pace to lead state in meth labs

EVANSVILLE -

Authorities in Vanderburgh County in southwest Indiana report 41 one-pot methamphetamine lab cases have been reported in the first five months of the year.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports the number is slightly below the 43 cases the county had through the end of last May. The county ended up leading the state in meth labs last year for a second straight time.

Vanderburgh County had 116 such cases last year and 95 the year before. Elkhart County had the second most cases last year with 71 cases. In 2010, Kosciusko County was second with 85 cases.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams says his deputies believe the increase in lab trash discoveries show that the mobility of one-pot labs has expanded beyond the confines of houses.
