18 treated after western Indiana nursing home fire

ATTICA -

A western Indiana nursing home fire has sent at least 18 people to hospitals.

Attica Fire Chief Ed O'Farrell says 14 residents and two staff members of the Woodland Manor Nursing Center and some firefighters have been treated for smoke-related injuries at hospitals in Williamsport and Lafayette. He says one firefighter has been treated for exhaustion and another for a hip injury.

O'Farrell tells the Lafayette Journal & Courier that the two residents in a room where the fire began early Saturday and a staff member helped them have been treated for burns.

He says sprinklers extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived at the nursing home located about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette. It had 43 residents, and those not hospitalized have gone to churches or other facilities.
