Two young girls critical after Amish buggy accident

ETNA GREEN -

Two young northern Indiana girls have been critically injured after being dragged underneath an Amish buggy.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department says the two girls, ages 1 and 3, were in critically condition Friday night after being airlifted via helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Cpl. Chris Rager says the mother of the children, Barbara Miller of Bourbon, had been preparing to leave a home in Etna Green on Friday afternoon and had placed the girls inside the buggy when the horse attached to the carriage suddenly backed up, flipping the vehicle onto its side. The girls were trapped as the horse dragged the carriage for about 50 yards on a stone driveway.

Etna Green is about 30 miles southeast of South Bend.
