N. Indiana trustee not resigning despite guilty plea

MISHAWAKA -

A northern Indiana township trustee who has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a ghost employment investigation is refusing to resign from office since a judge hasn't yet accepted his plea agreement.

Members of the Penn Township Advisory Board asked trustee Jeff Dean to step down during a meeting Tuesday night. The South Bend Tribune reports board president Charles Gray told Dean that he had lost the trust of residents in the township that includes Mishawaka.

Dean pleaded guilty last week to official misconduct charges. Prosecutors charged Dean with paying his live-in girlfriend at the time more than $37,000 for cleaning work that she didn't complete.

Dean tells WNDU-TV that he still has work to do for the township.

His next court hearing is scheduled for July 30.
