LAPEL -

Authorities say eight people were injured in a crash between two minivans at a rural intersection in central Indiana.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson tells The Herald Bulletin that four children were among those hurt in the crash near Lapel.

The newspaper reports that one person was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. The rest were first taken to hospitals in nearby Anderson, and an adult and three children were later transferred to an Indianapolis hospital.

Richardson says the crash happened about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when a minivan carrying two adults and three children ran a stop sign at an intersection and collided head-on with another minivan carrying one adult and a child.

He says a child was ejected from the van that failed to stop.
