Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO -

Voters in two major California cities have overwhelmingly approved measures to cut retirement benefits for city workers.

In San Jose, 71 percent voted in favor of Measure B and 29 percent were opposed. Nearly half of precincts have reported.

With more than half of precincts reporting in San Diego, 68 percent voted in favor of Proposition B, while 32 were opposed.

The votes were closely watched in California and beyond as more state and local governments struggle with ballooning pension payments.
