Fort Wayne man dies 5 years after being shot

FORT WAYNE -

A coroner has ruled the death of a 24-year-old man who died of complications from being shot in Fort Wayne more than five years ago is a homicide.

The Allen County coroner's office says Dawain Porter died Saturday after being hospitalized for two weeks, dying of sepsis due to complications from his paraplegia. Porter was shot outside Glenbrook Square mall in 2006.

No charges were filed even though police initially said the shooting happened during a dispute with another 19-year-old. The county prosecutor's office tells The Journal Gazette there is insufficient evidence to file charges.

In April, the county coroner ruled the death of 44-year-old Brian Burtz a homicide after he died from sepsis 29 years after a shooting in Fort Wayne left him a quadriplegic.
