Hundreds of TB tests at school find no new cases

Posted: Updated:
TERRE HAUTE -

Health officials say tuberculosis skin tests on about 750 students and staff members at a Terre Haute school found no new cases of the disease.

The voluntary tests were given last week at Woodrow Wilson Middle School following a suspected tuberculosis illness with a person connected with the school.

Vigo County Health Department administrator Joni Foulkes tells the Tribune-Star that officials are awaiting test results on the suspected case. If that is confirmed as tuberculosis, then new tests could be offered at the school in a couple months.

Officials aren't saying whether the sick person is a student or employee.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that usually attacks the lungs and is typically passed through sneezing or coughing.
