INDIANAPOLIS -

A major announcement today is expected to impact the health of your children. The Walt Disney Company is taking a stand against childhood obesity.

You will see a change in your favorite Disney programs, and something new at the grocery store. Disney will announce later this morning that it will cut junk food advertising on its television shows, radio programming and websites.

The move is part of a healthy living initiative that began in 2006 with the launch of Disney licensed fruits and vegetables. Under this initiative, all products advertised on shows geared toward kids will have to follow a strict set of nutritional standards.

At Disney Theme parks, where healthier alternatives are already available, Disney will reduce sodium by 25-percent in its kids meals.

Public Service Announcements will promote exercise and healthy eating.

Starting today, when you see a Disney product with the familiar Mickey Mouse ears and a check mark, it means the food item limits calories, saturated fat, sodium and sugar.

One third of children in the U.S. are considered overweight or obese, and Disney is making an effort to curb that.

This is all part of Disney's "Magic of Healthy Living Campaign."  First Lady Michelle Obama will join Disney's president in that announcement expected before Noon today.
