Yearbook maker goes online to help revive industry

INDIANAPOLIS -

An Indianapolis company that is one of the nation's biggest school yearbook sellers hopes a new online venture will boost its business in the struggling industry.

Herff Jones has teamed with MediaSauce of Carmel to create an online yearbook supplement that mirrors social media networks like Facebook and allows students to post photos throughout the year.

The venture known as Stitch has been tested in 54 schools across the country and will be rolled out nationally to thousands of schools in July.

Herff Jones officials tell the Indianapolis Business Journal that Stitch is meant to supplement traditional yearbooks, not replace them.

Columbus North High School journalism adviser Kim Green calls Stitch "a huge leap forward" for yearbooks that haven't changed in decades.
