Indiana residents can fish for free this weekend

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana residents without a fishing license won't need one to go fishing this weekend at the state's public-owned lakes and rivers.

Indiana's standard resident fishing license costs $17. But during Saturday and Sunday's "Free Fishing Weekend," adult residents won't need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish in Indiana's waters. Children age 17 and younger don't need a fishing license in Indiana at any time.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says its free fishing weekend is a good chance for Hoosiers who've never gone fishing or haven't in a while to give it a try. Several of Indiana's state recreation areas are planning fishing derbies, casting clinics, fish-cleaning demonstrations and cooking classes during the weekend.
