Posted: Updated:

SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) - The New Orleans Hornets were the big winners in the NBA draft lottery tonight.

The Hornets came away with the first overall pick in next month's draft, jumping over Charlotte after having a 13.7 percent chance of landing the No. 1 selection. The Bobcats had to settle for the second choice after owning a 25 percent chance of coming away with the top pick.

Washington has the third pick, following by Cleveland and Sacramento. Brooklyn received the sixth selection but has to give it to Portland as part of a previous trade.

Golden State, Toronto, Detroit and the Hornets round out the top 10. New Orleans received the second lottery pick in a deal with Minnesota.
