PIERCETON -

Authorities in northern Indiana say a man suspected of drunken driving fled a traffic stop and dragged a police officer about 10 feet on pavement.

The Kosciusko County sheriff's department says Pierceton Deputy Marshal Jim Bumbaugh suffered cuts and road-rash abrasions to his hands, arms and knees. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Sheriff's Sgt. Chad Hill says during the stop Tuesday evening the man jumped back into a car and started it. Hill says Bumbaugh grabbed the man and tried to pull him out, but the man raced away.

Police later arrested a 50-year-old Warsaw man on preliminary charges including felony criminal recklessness and battery on a police officer.
