INDIANAPOLIS -

Records obtained by a newspaper show that vials of blood taken from a police officer accused of drunken driving in a fatal crash were moved one day before a police department shakeup over a previous mishandling of the vials.

Our newsgathering partners at The Indianapolis Star report an evidence log shows Public Safety Director Frank Straub's top civilian deputy, Ellen Corcella, had the vials moved April 16. That was one day before Police Chief Paul Ciesielski was demoted over a previous mishandling of the vials.

The vials were moved both times despite a court order.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry on May 4 demanded that Mayor Greg Ballard fire Straub and Corcella.

Straub announced April 27 that he would resign Aug. 1. WIBC-FM reports Curry and Ballard say they've since resolved the issue.
