SPEEDWAY -
Police are investigating an overnight fight that left one man stabbed and another hospitalized after pre-race partying got out-of-hand early Friday morning.
Speedway Police at the scene said witnesses, including an Indianapolis Motor Speedway security guard, told them a small group of "two or three" men joined a larger group of campers in the Coke Lot near 2800 N. Georgetown Road.
When members of the larger group asked the smaller group to leave their area around 1:00 a.m., one man responded by stabbing another.
Witnesses told police that friends of the stabbed man reacted by beating the man believed to be the stabber. Both men were taken by ambulance to separate hospitals.
The stabbed man was listed in stable condition as of 2:45 a.m.
The suspect was identified as Charles Wayne Beasley Jr. He was arrested by Speedway Police Officer's and transported to Wishard Hospital for altercation-related injuries.
Alcohol was a factor in this case. Speedway Police detectives will be presenting this case to the Marion County Prosecutors office for official charges.
Guest parking and camping on Indianapolis Motor Speedway property will see an increased police presence with the multi-agency efforts of Speedway Police, IMPD, Marion County Sheriff, and the Indiana State Police this race weekend.
