INDIANAPOLIS -
A Broad Ripple High School math teacher was arrested Thursday for possession of child pornography.
Robert S. Fowler, 43, of Noblesville, was arrested at school Thursday. He's currently being held on a $5,000 bond at the Hamilton County Jail.
Fowler faces nine counts of child exploitation, all Class D felonies.
A spokeswoman with Indianapolis Public Schools says there's no indication that any illegal activity happened at the high school, but suspended Robert Fowler with pay after his arrest.
We spoke with students this afternoon including some who were in Fowler's Algebra One class at the Broad Ripple magnet high school with students ranging from 6th to 12th grade. Some of them actually witnessed the arrest. They say he was handcuffed and surrounded by police officers.
The students tell us Fowler was very private and did not like others borrowing his computer.
The Lafayette Police Department were first alerted to Fowler through a local investigation. After searching Fowler's computer, investigators with the Hamilton County Metro Child Exploitation Task Force confirmed he was in possession of child pornography. Investigators also searched a computer Fowler had access to at Broad Ripple High School which revealed no additional evidence.
The Hamilton County Metro Child Exploitation Task Force uses "highly trained police officers and prosecutors to identify and apprehend those individuals who utilize computers, digital media and other electronic devices to prey upon children for the purpose of sexual gratification and/or profit."
