WTHR dominates in all key newscasts in May 2012

INDIANAPOLIS, May 24—WTHR (Channel 13) announced today that according to Nielsen ratings from the recently concluded May 2012 sweeps, Eyewitness News garnered significant ratings increases and competitive advantage in key newscasts, while ranking number one at 4:30AM, 5AM, 5:30AM, 6AM, 5PM, 5:30PM, 6PM and 11PM.*

Weekday mornings 6-7am, Eyewitness News Sunrise continued as the favorite choice for Hoosiers while earning the biggest ratings increases year-to-year, nearly doubling the viewership gap between its nearest competitor. Here is a look at the 6am news ratings and shares:

WTHR also remains the dominant source for local news weekday evenings, home to the most watched newscasts at 5pm, 5:30pm and 6pm.  Nearly 60% of viewers tuned to local news choose WTHR at 6pm, and the newscast scored the largest ratings gains year-to-year, finishing with a 9.7 rating, more than doubling its nearest competitor WISH-TV with a 3.9.

At 11pm, Eyewitness News Nightbeat not only beats its nearest competitor by 14%, but is the only newscast to grow ratings and share from its prime time lead-in. It was also the only late newscast to increase ratings and share from a year ago. Here is a look at the numbers:

WTHR's success also extends across all platforms. The station's website, WTHR.com, continues to garner impressive traffic. For the month of May (through May 23, 2012), WTHR.com had already earned over 10 million page views and nearly 4 million unique visitors. And, according to Scarborough** more Indianapolis adults visit WTHR.com daily, weekly and monthly than any other local television or newspaper website.
