100 new trees planned for Terre Haute neighborhood

TERRE HAUTE -

A community group is planning to plant 100 trees in a Terre Haute neighborhood to replace dozens that were destroyed by a storm last year.

Leaders of Trees Inc. say the storm ruined the tree canopy over the streets around Collett Park on the city's north side. The Tribune-Star reports the group received $10,000 state grant and nearly $11,000 in city funding for the project.

The storm last May blew more than 60 trees onto homes and crushed several cars in the neighborhood.

Trees Inc. will provide volunteers to plant the trees. The city's urban forester will decide the type and location of the deciduous and shade trees.
