INDIANAPOLIS -

Allegations that teachers have been cheating to boost test scores have finally been addressed by Washington Township schools.

"Under the direction of the Indiana Department of Education, we are pursuing a robust investigation and have been in constant communication with DOE," said Superintendent Dr. Nikki Woodson at a Wednesday school board meeting.

An Eyewitness News investigation revealed that a North Central High School science teacher had apparently copied test questions from a critical end-of-the-year test. The Department of Education has confirmed the questions are used from year to year. The teacher then is alleged to have passed the questions along to other teachers to help prepare North Central High School students for test.

"This will be a comprehensive investigation and we will not let any stone go unturned," said Woodson

The test in question involves the 138 questions on the state biology end-of-course assessment test.  North Central student scores on this test have improved 20 percent.

Eyewitness News asked school board president Anthony Dzwonar if he or others on the board suspect wrongdoing with other state-standardized tests. "We have no reason to suspect that, but this investigation into a matter we just learned about will leave no stone unturned," said Dzwonar.

The board has not offered a timeline for the investigation. The allegations are serious and could result in teachers being suspended or fired if the investigation confirms the allegations.
