INDIANAPOLIS -

The woman accused of killing a church pastor made her first court appearance Tuesday.

Indianapolis Metro Police say the woman went into Bethel Community Church on Saturday morning after asking for Pastor Jaman Iseminger by name. Witnesses say they heard gunfire and saw the woman leave the church. One witness said she pointed the gun at him and told him to go.

Police say Iseminger came up the stairs from the basement of the church and collapsed in the yard. Officers found the suspect lying in a pile of brush with a handgun. There is still no word on a motive for the murder.

Tuesday morning, Barcroft covered her face as she made her way to Criminal Court 1 at the City-County Building. She said nothing when asked whether she committed the crime.

A couple who described themselves as relatives of the defendant also had nothing to say.

Prosecutors say the next step is to determine the status of her mental health.

"Counsel will evaluate whether there are mental health issues. It appears that way and if the lawyer feels those are issues she will be asked to be evaluated and experts appointed to make that kind of determination," said John Keiffner, deputy prosecutor.

When the judge routinely asked whether she was under the influence, Barcroft responded, "I never do drugs or alcohol." The judge also ordered Barcroft and her family not to have contact with two of the witnesses.

A trial date has been set for late July.
