STRAWTOWN -
An Indiana State Trooper shot a man with a gun early Wednesday morning at a park along the White River, northeast of Noblesville.
19-year-old Cory Michael Tucker of Lapel was struck multiple times in the upper body and flown to St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.
They say he fired his gun and waved it at police "in an aggressive manner," according to State Police spokesman Ray Poole.
The shooting occurred in Lafayette Trace Park at 15796 East Strawtown Avenue.
Police say a Hamilton County deputy was patrolling around 10 p.m. Tuesday night when he approached a car in the park. Tucker got out of the car holding a gun, and ran away.
Hamilton County called in Indiana State Police for help with a perimeter, and police spent the next three hours trying to locate Tucker in the tree line of the park, using thermal imaging and night vision equipment.
Police say they asked him to surrender, but he refused.
Around 1:00 a.m., Tucker fired a shot and swung his weapon, drawing police fire that wounded the man.
Police say Tucker was despondent over a breakup with his girlfriend. He has no criminal history.
According to the Hamilton County Parks website, Lafayette Trace Park closes at dusk.
