TOKYO -

The pipe-smoking bass player from "The Blues Brothers" and member of Booker T. and the MGs has died.

Donald "Duck" Dunn died in his sleep while on tour in Tokyo, according to guitarist Steve Cropper, who was on the same tour.

Dunn was 70.

A spokeswoman for the last venue where Dunn played confirms he died alone early Sunday.

Dunn is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The MGs. He was also part of the hotel band that Jake and Elwood recruit when they're getting the band back together in "The Blues Brothers."

Dunn also played on many Stax Records hits including Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Coming," Wilson Pickett's "In the Midnight Hour" and several Otis Redding songs.
