Judge backs Honda's engine change

INDIANAPOLIS -

Honda already has one big win at this year's Indianapolis 500.

On Friday, retired Indiana Supreme Court Justice Ted Boehm upheld IndyCar's decision allowing Honda to change the compressor cover on its single turbocharged engine. The other two manufacturers, Chevrolet and Lotus, both use twin turbochargers.

IndyCar officials ruled last month that Honda could change the cover in an effort to create more parity. Chevrolet appealed the ruling, and the case was heard Thursday by Boehm.

Honda applauded the decision, which came one day before practice opens for the Indianapolis 500.

Chevy has dominated the early part of the IndyCar season, winning the first four races all of the wins coming from Roger Penske's team.
