The Indianapolis 500 does not start without Jim Nabors and the Pacers don't advance in the NBA Playoffs without hearing at least one "boom baby" from Slick Leonard. Some traditions you just don't mess
The last time the Pacers played on race day was 2004. It will happen again Sunday, opening the possibilities for fans to see both.  They might even get tickets to both for $100 total.
INDIANAPOLIS -

When you hit the road each day, chances are you know the intersections to approach with caution. There are close calls everyday, and some are now listed as the most dangerous in the area.

Researchers have crunched the numbers, looking at everything from fender benders to fatal crashes to determine where the most dangerous intersections are in central Indiana.

IUPUI's Center for Criminal Justice Research found the intersection of US 31 and Westview in Franklin is one of the worst.  Researchers counted 21 crashes there.  Compare that to Hamilton County's top trouble spot.  There are an average of 50 crashes at US 31 and 116th Street in Carmel. The most dangerous intersection in Marion County is 86th and Keystone with 34 collisions. That's followed by 25th and Post, 86th and Allisonville, Emerson and Southport, and 38th and Shadeland.

Officials do say there have been improvements.  At the intersection of Emerson and Southport, construction is underway to add more travel lanes. Researchers say it doesn't matter how much work is done to fix an intersection, drivers first have to pay attention to their own driving habits, no matter where they are.

Some of the top contributing causes to crashes include:

  • Distracted driving, which includes texting
  • Speeding
  • Driving while impaired
  • Aggressive driving
  • Failure to use seatbelts
  • Drowsy driving

The AAA Foundation wants to draw attention to the top of the list: distracted driving. AAA says distracted driving contributes to 80,000 crashes every single day nationwide.
