INDIANAPOLIS -

The special agent in charge of the FBI's Indianapolis bureau has been promoted to a post in the agency's Counterterrorism Division.

The FBI says Robert J. Holley has been named deputy assistant director of the FBI's Counterterrorism Division, Operations Branch I.

An Indiana native, Holley began his FBI career in 1995 in Chicago, where he led an international terrorism squad. He worked in national security in Chicago and Washington, where he was responsible for all U.S.-based international terrorism investigations. He has deployed to Yemen, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Tanzania and Israel.

He was named the FBI's top official in Indianapolis last October.

A 1977 graduate of Peru High School and a 1981 Ball State University graduate, Holley served nine years in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer.
